My painting process is based on painting from life, being in direct contact with my subjects. For me, the excitement that comes from attempting to comprehend the infinite complexities of Nature, unveiling her hidden rhythms, is essential to capturing a part of that excitement and preserving it in paint. In this way, every picture becomes an experience that is lived only once and impossible to reproduce.
During my stay in Japan, I became increasingly interested in exploring paper and water-based techniques. The unforgiving nature of ink painting and watercolor, where every stroke is recorded and visible in the final work, asks for making quick and clear decisions. The illusion of an object or a scene is made by the sum of these brush marks, revealing the thought process and character of the artist through his handwriting. My current thinking is along these same lines, using motifs from everyday life to try and penetrate deeper into the possibilities of expressing beauty through paint.
